At the beginning of this year, the 1c art class created personal illustrated manuscript pages with Prof. Cristina Silva and Prof. Éimear Doherty. After studying the art of illustrated manuscripts, including the famous Irish 'Book of Kells', the students choose a text (a song, poem or passage from their favourite book- many chose songs) to copy onto their manuscript page; in the same way the monks copied passages from the gospel into the 'Book of Kells'. When finished the text, which many copied using pen and ink, students began the important task of decorating their page; most importantly, the first letter of the first word. Finally, they students had the joy of adding colour to their page using egg tempera. It was the students first time using this medium and we think they all did a fantastic job! If you would like to see these art works in person, come to the third floor corridor where they are exhibited outside the art room.
